Two south suburban women told a judge they were just "doing a little shopping," but their story stinks.
Sandra Clay, 43, and Shontae Bennett, 18, were charged with retail theft Wednesday after they allegedly stole more than $2,100 worth of perfume from a Kohl's department store in South Elgin, reports the Daily Herald.
Clay and Bennett removed the security devices from about 40 bottles of perfumes before stuffing them into their bags, say police.
They also reportedly took $188 worth of clothing, footwear, and jewelry, according to The Courier-News.

Kohl's security called police and reported the shoplifting in progress.
Officers pulled the duo's car over and searched the contents, South Elgin Sgt Mike Doty told the Daily Herald.

Along with the perfume and merchandise, police also found scissors, pry bars, and wire cutters -- allegedly used to remove theft detectors from products.
The two were arrested and charged with retail theft and unlawful possession of a theft detection device remover.
The judge at their bond hearings asked Clay and Bennett what they were doing at a store that was over an hour from their home.
"Shoppin,'" Clay said, with a smile, reports The Courier-News.
"We were just doing a little shopping and other stuff," giggled Bennett.
Both are due in court in two weeks, and each face up to five years in prison.
They won't be laughing then.
