Last-Minute Line-Up in Cicero

Hundreds lined up for new vehicle stickers

A long line of about 400 people began forming in Cicero last night during the early evening hours, and people were still standing in line as late as 4 a.m. this morning.

Were they waiting for some hot concert tickets? The premiere of a new movie? Some new tech gadget?

No, it was nothing nearly that exciting. Those hundreds of Cicero residents were waiting to buy new vehicle stickers.

Beginning today, motorists in Cicero can be ticketed for not having a new sticker. And while the stickers have been on sale since April 1, hundreds of procrastinators lined up last night outside the town annex, where two windows were kept open all night.

The line however moved at a snail's pace because anyone with unpaid traffic tickets had to clear those up before they could purchase the $40 stickers.

"People cut in line. It was a mad house here all night," said Toni Rosenkrantz, who was in line until the wee hours of the morning. (Tribune)

As the saying goes, "A stitch in time saves nine."

Or, in this case, a sticker in time saves a nine-hour wait.

Matt Bartosik, editor of Off the Rocks' next issue, is a notorious procrastinator.
