“Family Ties” Star Meredith Baxter Weds Partner Nancy Locke

Here come the brides! Following a seven-year courtship, "Family Ties" star Meredith Baxter and contractor Nancy Locke got married in an intimate ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 8., in L.A. The women exchanged handwritten vows in front of close friends and family.

After the ceremony, Baxter told People, "Now I understand why marriage caught on!"

Wedding speculation began to circulate on Tuesday, Nov. 12, when it was reported that 66-year-old Baxter had obtained a marriage license in Beverly Hills. The TV star, who was previously married to Robert Lewis Bush, David Birney and Michael Blodgett, publicly revealed she was a lesbian in 2009.

"I got involved with someone I never expected to get involved with, and it was that kind of awakening," she said of Locke on Today in 2009. "I never fought it because it was like, 'Oh, I understand why I had the issues I had early in life.' I had a great deal of difficulty connecting with men in relationships." When Baxter came out to her five children, they were surprisingly supportive.

"I said, 'I think I'm gay,' and my oldest boy said, 'I knew,'" the actress said. "The support from my family and anyone close to me has been so immediate and unqualified. I've really been blessed."

No word yet on where Baxter or Locke plan to honeymoon.
