Quinn Orders Flags Lowered for Slain Sheriff's Investigator

Cuauhtemoc Estrada, 50, was gunned down Friday night

Flags around Illinois were to be flown at half-staff Thursday in honor of a Cook County Sheriff's investigator slain last week.

Cuauhtemoc Estrada, 50, was gunned down Friday night while trying to stop two armed men from robbing his daughter's boyfriend, authorities and family members said. He was off-duty at the time and attending a holiday party at a VFW hall in west suburban Bellwood.

Two men, Gage Thornton and Brandon Jackson, have been charged in connection with his death. Both were ordered held without bond on Monday.

Quinn on Tuesday asked all persons and entitities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act to honor Estrada from sunrise Thursday to sunset Saturday.
