Because you lead by example, and because wow our economy is great right now, Mayor Daley saw his income fall for the third straight year in 2009.
His net income, according to tax returns: $175,240.
In 2008: $183,992.
In 2007: $238,190.
At this rate, considering his average annual losses are halving each year, his income should reach zero at about 2314. So, like, when he's almost out of office.
The reasons for the decline: He took 15 unpaid days off last year, knocking out 4% of his city salary. Those days were six furlough days, three government shutdown days and six unpaid holidays.
He'll take 29 unpaid days in 2010. Non-union workers are taking 24 days off this year.
