The Candidate: Steve Waterworth
The Race: Democratic Party Candidate for the 18th Congressional District
The Competition: Aaron Jon Schock
The Buzz: Waterworth is a retired Illinois Air National Guard master sergeant who spent four years in the Air Force.
He was formerly a clerk for Crane Creek Township and president of a park district in Easton. Waterworth then ran for Congress in 2004 and in 2006 against the current Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood.
Waterworth considers the loss of jobs and the foreign trade deficit to be primary concerns for the state. He also believes the U.S. needs to rely less on imported oil and develop its own energy resources. He is a strong supporter of wind energy and ethanol, both of which he said would provide tax breaks.
Waterworth considers his young opponent Aaron Schock inexperienced and privileged.
