A Picture of the New Ward Map

Straight from Ald. Danny Solis’s Twitter feed, we have a picture of the ward remap passed this morning by the City Council.

We don’t have the demographics of each ward yet, but we understand that the black caucus only lost one ward, despite a population drop of 180,000. And, as you can see, both the 2nd Ward and the 36th Ward were drastically reshaped.

The 2nd Ward, which has been on the Near South Side for over a century, is now on the North Side. The 36th Ward appears to have picked up a lot of Latino neighborhoods. Both 2nd Ward Ald. Bob Fioretti and 36th Ward Ald. Nick Sposato attempted to require the Council to publish the map before voting on it, but their motion failed.

Spared in the remap was Lincoln Park. Under the original Map For A Better Chicago, Lincoln Park was split among five wards. It now remains mainly in Ald. Michelle Smith’s 43rd Ward.
