Vienna Beef Unveils Sausage Dedicated To Da Coach

    President Barack Obama finally gave the Chicago Bears the honor of a White House visit, 26 years after they captivated the country and won the Super Bowl. (Published Thursday, Oct 13, 2011)

    Think of everything that's classically Chicago, at least according to a Saturday Night Live skit, and you'll guess the newest food to come out of the Windy City.

    Vienna Beef partnered with Da Coach to make a new dinner sausage called, yep, Ditka Sausages.

    The new line comes out Aug. 9 in Chicago-area Jewel-Osco and Mariano’s stores among other grocers and select restaurants around the country. The sausages weigh one-third pound and are eight inches long.

    “These sausages embody Chicago," former Bears coach Mike Ditka said. "The tradition, the teams, the fans, the big appetites— Chicago deserves a monster sausage they can be proud of. I think I’m going to go have one right now.”

    He'll get to choose from a hot beef Polish Sausage and chicken sausage with mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes. 

    They come in a 10.66-ounce two-pack, with a suggested retail price from $4.99 to $5.99. 

    Ditka Restaurants will serve them, as well as Gold Coast Dogs, America’s Dogs, Mickey’s Hot Dogs, Arlington Racecourse and Vienna Beef’s Factory Store.

    And of course Soldier Field.

    “Ditka. Sausages. Talk about a match made in heaven,” said Timothy O’Brien, co-president of Vienna Beef.  “Vienna Beef is thrilled to team up with the Ditka Brand to bring together two Chicago icons for one unique, larger-than-life product— just like Coach."
