Bears Cut Israel Idonije

Veteran defensive end re-signed with team after spending a year with Detroit Lions

Veteran defensive end Israel Idonije won't be making a triumphant return to the Chicago Bears this season.

The Bears announced Thursday that the team has terminated Idonije's contract.

Idonije played for the Bears from 2004-2012. He played with the Detroit Lions in 2013 before re-signing with the Bears during the offseason.

The team also waived safety Sean Cattouse, quarterback Jerrod Johnson and tight end Fendi Onobun.

The Bears announced the signings of defensive end Jamil Merrell from Rutgers and linebacker Conor O'Neill from Wisconsin.
