The entire Chicago area will be under a Wind Advisory starting late Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The Wind Advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. through 9 p.m., with gusts up to 45 or 50 mph.

Tuesday morning began mostly cloudy, damp and chilly. A few scattered light rain showers, potentially mixed with a bit of snow or flurries, are possible, mainly north of I-80.

The afternoon was expected to be extremely windy. Drivers should use extra caution, particularly anyone driving a high-profile vehicle, as high winds would make travel difficult. Minor damage to tree limbs is also possible.

Afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 40s before falling for a much colder, blustery evening.

Temperatures continue to fall overnight, into the mid and upper teens in the coldest locations inland by dawn. The city, plus southern suburbs and northwest Indiana will see low 20s, with wind chill readings in the single digits by daybreak.

Wednesday looks to be cloudy, windy and much colder with highs in the low to mid 20s, but wind gusts making it feel much chillier.

Thursday will see more sun and less wind, but still cold with highs in the mid to upper 20s. Friday will be seasonably cold with highs in the low to mid 30s and mostly cloudy skies, with flurries or light snow possible late evening or overnight.

Light snow will also be possible Saturday, particularly in southern counties through midday with some minor accumulation possible, then mostly cloudy and dry later in the afternoon.

The seasonably cold trend continues both Saturday and Sunday for a wintry weekend overall.
