Despite an incredible amount of rainfall, a home in far southwest suburban Lemont continued to burn Wednesday night.
Officials said the home, on the 16400 block of Alba, in Lemont, was struck by lightning.
The family was inside at the time and called 911 after hearing a large crack, Lemont Fire Chief Carl Churulo said.
All members of the family were able to get out of the home safely, he said, while the entire second floor of the home was engulfed by flames.
Firefighters had to shuttle water down to the home because the driveway was long, winding gravel road.
No firefighters were injured.
