This week’s stormy weather isn’t letting up just yet.

After a morning of showers and thunderstorms in the Chicago area comes an evening of potentially severe weather.

Thunderstorms could re-develop later in the afternoon, growing more widespread into the evening.

At 6:25 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for LaSalle and Grundy counties until midnight. Livingston County is also under the watch, as are Lee, Ogle, and Winnebago counties, according to a weather alert. It was, however, canceled later in the evening.

Some of the storms could pose a severe threat, with large hail, damaging winds and the potential for a tornado. Torrential rainfall is also possible, which could bring localized flash flooding to some locations.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for much of the Chicago area beginning Friday evening and continuing through Saturday morning.

Counties included in watch are Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, LaSalle, Lake, McHenry and Will counties in Illinois and Lake County in Indiana.

The watch warns that storms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour.

Adding to that, the chance for periodic showers and storms continues each day for the long weekend.

Temperature highs will sit in the 70s through Memorial Day.
