New Year's Eve on the Cheap

Celebrating NYE Doesn't Have to Cost a Fortune

If you're old enough to have a few New Year's Eve celebrations under your belt, chances are, you've learned a few lessons the hard way -- it's impossible to get a cab, most events are overpriced, the open bar means waiting hours for your drink and the hype rarely lives up to the reality.

So why drop a small fortune on an evening that may not live up to your expectations? Here's a few picks for some select spots with NYE specials, and links to even more deals around the city:

  • Nacional 27 is offering a three-course dinner menu (6:15 pm - 8:45 pm) that includes choices of tapas, entrees and desserts. Live percussion, Latin lounge music and a DJ will provide entertainment through the night. A $20 cover charge enforced after 9 p.m. will be waived for diners. Complimentary sparkling wine and party favors are included.
  • You can ring in the new year at Hogs & Honeys (901 W. Weed St.) for $35 per person. That includes a buffet and a 4-hour premium open bar.
  • River North's Martini Park is offering a $60 package that includes an open bar from 9 p.m. - midnight, and complimentary passed appetizers.
  • The Original Mother's will be open from 9pm to 3am and offers a $50 package that includes all beer and wine. Pay a bit more for the next level packages to get extras like premium liquor.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. Check out RedEye's list, which includes some parties that don't require a cover charge.
