Even with Jordan Palmer in the fold for another year, and with Jay Cutler signed for another seven seasons, the Chicago Bears apparently aren't done addressing the quarterback position. They have had several quarterbacks visit the team on Monday according to reports.
The headlining signal-caller in that group is Josh Freeman, who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings last season. In four combined starts between the two teams, Freeman threw for two touchdowns and four interceptions, and racked up only 761 yards through the air. In his career, he has 80 touchdowns and 67 interceptions, with a quarterback rating of 77.8.
Obviously, 2013 was a down year for Freeman, and teams haven't exactly been banging down his door this offseason. If anyone can resurrect the career of a quarterback who was one of the most promising players of the 2009 NFL Draft (where he was picked 17th overall by the Buccaneers), then Bears head coach Marc Trestman could be that guy.
Whether it was Rich Gannon in Oakland or Cutler and McCown in Chicago, the coach has a good track record of helping quarterbacks to career years, and he could feasibly do the same if given the chance to work with Freeman.
According to CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora, the Bears also worked out Adam Weber at their facility on Monday. The quarterback, who is the all-time leading passer in University of Minnesota history, has never started an NFL game, and was released by the Buccaneers in August of 2013.
