Northern Illinois Set to Take on UAB in Bowl Game

The Huskies won the MAC championship at Ford Field last week

The Northern Illinois University Huskies won the MAC championship on Friday, and on Sunday they were rewarded with a trip to the Boca Raton Bowl.

The Huskies, who beat Buffalo in a thrilling 30-29 classic at Ford Field in Detroit, will take on the UAB Blazers in the game later this month.

Quarterback Marcus Childers has been dynamic for the Huskies, as he's thrown for 1,996 yards and 15 touchdowns so far this season. His play has been complemented well by the team's explosive run game, as Childers himself has rushed for nearly 500 yards.

Running back Tre Harbison leads the team with 985 yards and four tochdowns on the season.

The Blazers are primarily a running team, with Spencer Brown leading the way with 1,149 yards and a staggering 16 touchdowns on the season. In all, the team averaged 4.6 yards per carry on the season and scored a total of 32 touchdowns on the ground, as opposed to 14 through the air.

UAB and Northern Illinois will square off in the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN.
