Twitter offers mixed reactions after Bears draft punter Trenton Gill originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Chicago Bears made their final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft a special one.

And by special, we mean special teams. The team selected NC State punter Trenton Gill with the 255th overall pick in the seventh round on Saturday, completing its 11-man draft class.

The Bears needed a replacement punter after veteran Pat O’Donnell signed with the rival Green Bay Packers this offseason. O’Donnell ranked 19th in the NFL last season with an average punt of 46.2 yards.

Now, the Bears have a First Team All-ACC player who will be brought out on fourth downs.

As could be predicted with the Bears drafting a punter, a number of Twitter users landed on the same joke:

Others were fuming that the Bears took Gill over Illinois punter Blake Hayes:

Not everyone was pessimistic about the pick, however, as some people gave Bears fans reason to be excited about Gill:

The 2022 draft was a big one for punters, as Gill was one of four taken across the 262 picks.
