Trade deadline: Rays talking with Cubs about Bryant, Kimbrel originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Another AL East team is expressing interest in trading with the Cubs prior to Friday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.
The Rays are "talking" with the Cubs regarding All-Stars Kris Bryant and Craig Kimbrel, according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal.
Rosenthal adds the Rays could trade for Bryant or Kimbrel individually, or potentially in a blockbuster package deal.
Bryant and Kimbrel are the Cubs' top two trade chips, and both have been fixtures on the rumor mill over the last few weeks. The Rays, Giants and Mets have each expressed various levels of interest in Bryant this month.
Kimbrel, who's been the best closer in baseball this season, is one of the hottest names on the market as contenders look to bolster their bullpens for the stretch run heading into October.
The Rays' farm system is widely regarded as the best in baseball, a point of interest for a Cubs organization restocking its own pipeline at this trade deadline.
The Cubs moved one half of 'Bryzzo' to the AL East on Thursday, sending Anthony Rizzo to the Yankees in a shocking trade of the franchise icon.
Another 2016 champion joined the AL East hours later, when the Red Sox acquired former Cub Kyle Schwarber from the Nationals.
