MLB Offseason 2020-21: Top 40 Free Agents Available

MLB free agency: Top 40 players available originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Sunday marked the first day MLB free agents became eligible to sign with new teams. But like the rest of baseball in 2020, this offseason will be unpredictable.

Clubs across the league experienced revenue losses due to COVID-19. For how slow the past few Hot Stove seasons have been, it's quite possible this winter will be more of the same, if not to a greater degree. Teams know how much money they lost in 2020; they can't predict their 2021 revenues without knowing if fans will be in attendance.

This winter's free agent class features a batting champ, numerous All-Stars and a likely Cy Young winner. It's full of veterans and likely will include more, come the Dec. 2 non-tender deadline.Who's available as of this writing, though? Glad you asked. Here's a ranking of the top 40 free agents.

A plethora of solid veteran players are not featured, including pitchers Adam Wainwright, Jon Lester, Tony Watson, Trevor May, Joakim Soria, Drew Smyly and Rick Porcello, and position players like Kike Hernández, Yasiel Puig, Yoenis Cespedes, Kevin Pillar, Adam Eaton, Jay Bruce, and more.
