Ross reminded of ‘16 NLDS triumph in return to San Francisco originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
If Cubs fans feel a sense of nostalgia during this weekend’s series in San Francisco, they’re not alone.
Just ask manager David Ross.

We’re nearing the five-year anniversary of the Cubs-Giants 2016 NLDS matchup, a series full of memorable moments on the Cubs’ path to the World Series.
And how could you not flashback to that series this weekend?
“There was a lot of memories flowing walking the hallways, taking pictures with family,” said Ross, who’s back in San Francisco in uniform for the first time since 2016.
Ross even has Jake Arrieta starting Friday. The right-hander provided one of those memorable moments with a three-run homer off Giants ace Madison Bumgarner in Game 3 of that series.
Although the Cubs lost that game in extra innings, they finished things off the next day with an epic 6-5 comeback, series-clinching win in Game 4 — which many Cubs said was key to their 2016 postseason run.
Ross got the Cubs on the board with a solo homer in Game 4, before a four-run ninth inning rally helped clinch their spot in the NLCS.
Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist each got on base in the ninth before Willson Contreras evened things up with a two-run single.
“I was talking to Wilson about his base hit that tied the game,” Ross said. “We were just talking about some cool ‘16 moments, which was fun for me, and some nostalgia moments.”
The Giants were a big part of the Cubs’ competitive turnaround that led to six winning seasons. In 2015, they swept the Giants in four games at Wrigley Field, passing San Francisco in the NL Wild Card standings along the way.
It’s only June, but both clubs are leading their divisions. Maybe it won't be long before they meet in October again.
