When Chicago Cubs slugger Ian Happ hit a home run over the wall at Wrigley Field on Sunday afternoon, he not only drove in the team’s 10th run of the afternoon, but he made some history too.
For the fourth consecutive game, the Cubs scored 10 or more runs on Sunday, picking up an 11-10 win over the Minnesota Twins at the Friendly Confines.
According to the Cubs, this run marks the first time since 1930 that the team has scored 10 or more runs in four consecutive games. During that season, which saw a staggering amount of the offense as the entire National League collectively hit over .300, the Cubs scored 10 or more runs in a team-record five straight games.
The Cubs will have the chance to tie that mark on Tuesday when they welcome the Detroit Tigers to Wrigley Field. The Tigers are in the bottom half of the league in terms of pitching, so the team’s offense could find another pitcher or two to feast upon.
Unfortunately for the Cubs, pitcher Jon Lester won’t be in the lineup. He slugged his second career home run on Sunday, a three-run shot that got the Cubs on the board in the second inning.
