Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell was forced to leave Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins after colliding with third baseman Javier Baez.
Russell, who is hitting .285 this season, was injured while chasing a pop-up off the bat of Eduardo Escobar. Russell did make the catch down the left field line, but was removed from the game after being examined by trainers.
After the game, the Cubs revealed that Russell's left middle finger had been stepped on during the collision. It is unclear what damage was done to the finger, or whether the shortstop will miss any time.
