Report: Danny Trevathan expected to hit IR originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
After an impressive final preseason game, veteran Bears inside linebacker Danny Trevathan may have the start to his 2021 regular season delayed. According to Brad Biggs, the Bears are expected to place Trevathan on the IR, meaning he couldn’t play until Week 4 at the earliest.
This opens the door for training camp standout Alec Ogletree to start alongside Roquan Smith to start the season. It could also explain why Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy opted to keep seven inside linebackers on their initial 53-man roster.

Trevathan missed a good chunk of camp with a knee injury, and was already facing questions about whether he was slowing down as he gets older. But he at least temporarily put an end to those questions against the Titans when he notched an interception, another PBU and a good tackle along the sideline.
His presumptive backup, Ogletree, has had a great summer as well. Just a few days after the Bears signed him in the beginning of August, he made his presence felt with a slew of interceptions at practices. He looked good in game action as well, showing a proclivity to knife his way into the backfield for TFLs.
“The guy’s out there making plays,” Roquan Smith said of Ogletree. “You can see why he’s been in the league as long as he’s been. I tip my hat off to him — veteran, come in, doing the right thing, don’t say much but come out and work hard each and every day. That’s why I have respect for him.”
Chicago Bears
The Bears are also expected to place Teven Jenkins on IR. By placing Jenkins and Trevathan on IR, the Bears would open up two additional spots on their 53-man roster.
