The Chicago Cubs made a roster move on Wednesday, as they placed pitcher Kendall Graveman on the 60-day injured list.

Graveman, whom the Cubs signed this offseason, underwent Tommy John Surgery in 2018, so the roster move was a formality as the team begins spring training this week.

The move clears a spot on the team’s 40-man roster, dropping the number of players on that list to 39.

Graveman had a down year in 2018, posting a 7.60 ERA in seven starts for the Oakland A’s, but he has been a solid pitcher in his big league career overall, going 23-29 with a 4.38 ERA in 83 career appearances, including 83 starts.

There is a small possibility that the Cubs could get Graveman back this season, but it’s more likely that he will be a contributor when 2020 rolls around for the club.

A corresponding roster move has not been made.
