Bears Bites: Market Heating Up for Josh McCown

Also, there were plenty of potential draftees for the Bears that performed at the NFL Combine this weekend

In this Monday edition of Bears Bites, we let you know who struggled and who shone at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis over the weekend, a team that could be interested in signing Josh McCown, and bring you another mock draft based on some of the results of the Combine.

-We start out with some news about the Bears’ back-up quarterback situation. While Marc Trestman and Phil Emery both expressed their desire to retain McCown over the weekend, a new team has entered the fray as it seeks his services: the New York Jets, who are looking for a proven back-up in case Geno Smith falters. - Bears right guard Kyle Long had a tough stretch in his life that he was able to overcome and reach the NFL. Colt Lyerla, Long’s former teammate at the University of Oregon, has gone through similar struggles, including being seen snorting cocaine in a car after being booted from the team. [CBS Chicago]

- Should the Bears draft a defensive lineman or a safety when their pick comes up at #14 in May’s NFL Draft? Most people are leaning toward line help, and in this mock draft, Dominique Blanton goes that direction in taking Ra’Shede Hageman, a lineman out of Minnesota. [Chicago Bears Huddle]

- Colorado State running back (and a star at Plainfield North) Kapri Bibbs decided to leave college early to avoid the potential pitfalls of injuries. Was it the right choice? [Daily Herald]

- Reggie Jordan, a tight end out of Missouri Western, has gotten some career advice from Bears defensive lineman David Bass, who was his teammate at the school. [ESPN Chicago]

- The Bears likely aren’t looking to go wide receiver in the NFL Draft in May, but Texas A&M’s Mike Evans had a ridiculous day at the Combine that is worth reading about anyway. [Shutdown Corner]

- There aren’t many players who would admit to using Detroit Lions lineman Ndamukong Suh as a role model, but then again, Florida State DT Timmy Jernigan isn’t most linemen. [Chicago Sun-Times]

- Another player that the Bears could potentially look at drafting is Notre Dame DT Louis Nix III, who has dropped 23 pounds during his pre-Draft training sessions. [Chicago Tribune]
