Bears Bites: Draft Hype Heating Up as Bears Mull Options

The Bears are preparing for the draft, and Phil Emery discussed the process Thursday

With the NFL Draft only six days away, NFL pundits all over the web are weighing in with what they think the Chicago Bears should do, and we take a sampling of those arguments, as well as some updates from GM Phil Emery on a couple of different players, in this edition of Bears Bites.

-We start out with Matt Eurich’s interesting piece comparing some of the top players available in this year’s draft as compared to the top tier talent from last season’s draft. [Bleacher Report]

-While some people have questioned whether or not the Bears would address the back-up quarterback situation in the draft, Emery seemed to indicate during his Thursday press conference that the job is Jordan Palmer’s unless he does something to lose it. [CBS Chicago]

-Could the Bears trade down in the first round of the draft? Emery didn’t dismiss the notion, saying that he has been fielding calls from other teams looking to move up. [CSN Chicago]

-The Bears may have lost Major Wright from their safety group, but with the additions of MD Jennings and Ryan Mundy, the team is going to have an interesting battle on their hands at safety once training camp begins. [Daily Herald]

-Emery also provided an update on Shea McClellin, who has been working out like a fiend during the offseason. Will that translate to success at the linebacker position? Only time will tell. [ESPN Chicago]

-The Bears are also exploring the possibility of drafting a running back at some point during next year’s draft, as they look for a nice change of pace back to pair with Matt Forte. [Chicago Sun-Times]

-Finally, Emery also weighed in on the possibility of the Bears appearing on Hard Knocks, saying that he feels that another team would benefit more from the exposure that the show can provide. [Chicago Tribune]
