Beau Biden was hospitalized Tuesday, May 11, 2010 after having what doctors believed was a mild stroke. He underwent surgery at a Texas cancer center in 2013 to remove what was described as a small lesion after he was diagnosed with brain cancer.

In Spring 2015, Beau Biden suffered a recurrence. He sought aggressive treatment and earlier this month was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Beau Biden supported Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq as part of a year-long deployment in September 2009.
After returning from the war, he said in he would not seek his father's Senate office, but wanted to focus instead on the job of AG.
