A woman was killed by a Chicago Transit Authority Red Line train after she dropped her phone on the tracks and jumped down to get it, police said.
According to authorities, the woman was at the 69th and State Street station when she was struck by an approaching train. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately release information on the death.
The CTA said service was temporarily suspended between 63rd and 95th Street due to a "medical emergency on the tracks."
Trains were stopped just before 12:45 p.m. and shuttle buses were available for riders in the affected area, the transit agency said. Service remained disrupted as of 2 p.m.
Riders were being urged to consider "other service alternatives."
