Woman, 81, Found Murdered in ‘Horrific Act' at Chicago Home

Supt. Eddie Johnson said Monday the woman, who has not yet been identified, "was senselessly and viciously murdered, and her body was decapitated."

An 81-year-old woman was found murdered Sunday morning in what Chicago's police superintendent called a "horrific act."

The woman was discovered just before noon in the 10000 block of South Forest Avenue in the city's Rosemoor neighborhood, police said.

Supt. Eddie Johnson said Monday the woman, who has not yet been identified, "was senselessly and viciously murdered, and her body was decapitated."

Police News Affairs, the division that handles requests for information from media, later said the woman was "dismembered."

"The crime scene was very clean," Johnson said Monday at a news conference about weekend violence, "and there was a lot of deliberation put into this horrific act."

Area South Detectives are investigating the case as a homicide, police said.

The woman's neighbors, who declined to give their names, said she owned the house since the 1970s but rented out the property. She moved back in the day before Memorial Day, neighbors told NBC 5, and had been there about three weeks before she was found dead.

Johnson strongly encouraged anyone with information to leave a tip at CPDtip.com or contact Area South Detectives.
