What Not to Put in an Incubator Application

Ariane Fisher of Oak Park-based Storymix Media -- a clever wedding-video business that has attendees shoot all the raw footage -- has posted an insightful list of things to never say in an all-important incubator application. As Fisher wrote over on builtinchicago.org

If you want your application to quickly end up in the reject pile, just do these things:

1. No Team (fly solo)

2. Just an Idea (all concept)

3. No business model, no traction

4. Take more than 15 minutes to explain your business

The creative director elaborates further in the post, and perhaps most intriguing is her second point. "All the incubators say that it's fine to apply with just an idea," Fisher writes. "Nowhere do they indicate that you will get accepted that way. You need to be able to show something by demo day."
