Two Indiana Officers Shot in Highland Outside Bar Parking Lot

Police say multiple gunshots were then fired, however, it is unknown by whom

Two Indiana officers were shot near a bar early Saturday, according to Highland police.

Authorities say they received a call around 2:39 a.m. Saturday and found two men in the parking lot on the east side of Growler’s Bar at 2816 Highway Avenue.

One of the men had a gunshot wound to his head and the other suffered a gunshot wound to his forearm, police said.

Preliminary investigation shows the two men had left Growler’s Bar, “returned and were advised by Growler’s security staff that the business was no longer allowing patrons inside as it was near closing time,” police said in a statement. “A disturbance evolved between these two males and the two victims, which became physical and it ultimately ended up outside near the east parking lot.

Police say multiple gunshots were then fired, however, it is unknown by whom.

Authorities said both victims were transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana, though one of the victims was later transferred to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn for the head injury.

Officers located the initial two males walking a block from the scene and were stopped by police, police said. They were taken into custody and are being held at the Highland Police Department for further investigation.

The investigation was ongoing.
