A travel advisory has been issued for LaPorte County in Indiana as heavy lake-effect snow pounds the region.
According to the advisory, up to nine inches of snow has fallen on the region, causing traffic accidents.
Authorities are asking motorists to stay off the roads even as snow tapers off, with strong winds likely causing blowing and drifting snow into the evening and overnight hours.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the county until midnight Eastern time (11 p.m. Central time).
