Tornado Watch Issued for Counties West of Chicago Area

The watch remains in effect until 1 a.m. Monday

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for several counties west of the Chicago area.

The watch, which remains in effect until 1 a.m. Monday, impacts some counties near the Chicago area, including DeKalb, La Salle and Boone counties.

The following counties in Illinois are also included in the watch: Bureau, Carroll, Cass, Christian, De Witt, Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, henry, Jo Daviess, Knox, Lee, Livingston, Logan, Macon, Marshall, Mason, McDonough, McLean, Menard, Mercer, Morgan, Ogle, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Stark, Stephenson, Tazewell, Warren, Whiteside, Winnebago and Woodford.

Several counties in Iowa are also included in the Tornado Watch, including some eastern counties bordering Illinois.

Strong winds, rain and spotty storms are in the forecast for the Chicago area overnight and at the start of Memorial Day on Monday. While temperatures will stay warm, wind gusts could reach 50 miles per hour at times.
