2-Year-Old Girl Shot in Gary to Be Flown to Chicago Hospital, Police Say

A 2-year-old girl was shot Tuesday night in Gary, Indiana, police said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 7 p.m. near Polk Street and 17th Avenue. Investigators are trying to determine if the girl got ahold of a gun or if someone shot her.

The child was taken to Northlake Hospital in Indiana but will be flown to Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago.

One neighbor told NBC 5 she's seen too many shootings in the area.

“It’s just sad. It’s just really sad," Marethia Burnett said. "I just feel for the family. The mother of this baby."

Police say they took two adults in for questioning.

No other information was immediately available.
