Suspicious Fire Breaks Out in Chatham Apartment Building

Nine people were rescued and three taken to the hospital after the two-alarm fire

A two-alarm fire that broke out in an apartment building in the Chatham neighborhood early Sunday morning has been deemed "suspicious" by the Chicago Fire Department.

The fire started on the third floor of a three-story building in the 9000 block of South Cottage Grove at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. It  may have started in a back stairwell on the third floor, fire officials said.

Nine people were rescued from the building via ground ladders and three were taken to Trinity Hospital. The fire was extinguished quickly, fire officials said.

The Chicago Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire, but they have deemed it "suspicous."
