Suspected Cold Case Killer Back in Court

The suspect in a 50-year-old kidnapping and murder case was back in court Monday in Sycamore.

Jack Daniel McCullough made his second court appearance in the killing of Maria Ridulph, a 7-year-old neighbor of McCullough's in Sycamore in the 1950's. His initial court appearance in Illinois was made two weeks ago via closed-circuit television.

McCullough has previously denied any involvement in Ridulph's death and is currently being held on $3 million bond. Last month, the girl's body was exhumed by authorities in hopes of uncovering some evidence related to the case.

Monday's court date also was expected to bring arguments from the lawyers of the Tribune Co. and The Associated Press, defending reporters who interviewed McCullough while he was incarcerated in Seattle from handing over their notes to the prosecutors.

Clay Campbell, DeKalb County State's Attorney, previously filed subpoenas asking for the notes.
