A state panel could vote as early as next week on whether to aprrove the closure of a northwest Illinois prison the Obama administration wants to buy to detain terrorism suspects from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability announced today they would hold a second public hearing at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6th at the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The vote is advisory. No public testimony will be taken.
The hearing comes one week after a first hearing drew hundreds of citizens -- some protesting the Obama administration's plan, and some in support of the economic benefits the plan would bring to the town of Thomson.
