The Solheim Cup -- basically the World Series of women's golf -- arrives at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove this week as spectators will get to watch the best that women’s professional golfers in action.
Named in honor of Karsten Solheim and his family -- the original makers of PING golf equipment – the Solheim Cup is a biennial, trans-Atlantic team match-play competition that features U.S.-born players from the LPGA -- or Ladies Professional Golf Association --who rank elite in professional women’s golf.
The highest-scoring European-born players from the LET -- Ladies European Tour -- will also compete in the tournament.
Currently the United States team leads the competition 7-3, and because they have never lost on home soil, the Sugar Grove location of this year’s Cup is to their advantage.

Tickets to the 2009 Solheim Cup can be purchased at all Jewel-Osco locations or the Cup’s website. Tickets are available for the actual tournament or to view the practice days leading up to the event.
So load on the sunscreen and brush up on your golf clapping. When an event this big comes to Chicago, it’s sinful to miss out.
