Shamrock Shuffle Steps Off in Chicago

Sky 5 footage shows runners stepping off at the 2017 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K. 

Thousands of shufflers took over Chicago streets early Sunday for the annual kick off to outdoor running season in the city. 

The 2017 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K stepped off Sunday morning, bringing elite athletes, enthusiasts and beginning runners together along a scenic course throughout downtown Chicago. 

Defending champion Stephen Sambu earned his "hat trick" victory in the race, followed closely by Olympian Diego Estrada.

Olympian Kim Conley also came out victorious at the finish line.

Paralympian and three-time Chicago Marathon champion Amanda McGrory also made a victorious debut in this year’s wheelchair competition.

New this year, shufflers also had the option of doing a 2-mile walk along the lakefront. 

Despite the threat of rain Sunday, shufflers were met with cloudy skies and mild weather conditions as they prepared to take off.

The 38th annual Shamrock Shuffle is a 4.97 mile run that starts and ends in Grant Park.
Runners must be able to maintain a 15:00/mile pace for the 8K run, and be able to keep a 30:00/mile pace for the 2 mile walk. Runners who finish outside this time will not be considered official finishers.

For the first time, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle will be offering the option to mail runners their bibs. Bib mailing is only available to the first 5,000 runners who select this option.

The 38th annual Shamrock Shuffle features two start waves. Wave 1 starts at 8:30 a.m. and Wave 2 begins at 9 a.m.

For the first time, Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle will offer a 2 mile walk. The walk will begin as the second wave of runners depart for the 8K.
For the Shamrock Shuffle 8K race, there will be two aid stations located a Miles 2 and 4. The two mile walk will have on on-course aid station.
