As thunderstorms rolled through northern Illinois on Wednesday night, incredible amounts of rain were dumped on the area during the deluge.
According to the National Weather Service, at least 15 different measuring sites registered three or more inches of rain during the storms, which knocked out power to consumers and caused wind-related damage as severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings dotted the area.
Rockford was one of the cities hardest hit by the rain, registering just over five inches of rain, according to National Weather Service estimates. Winnebago and Boone County each had several sites with over four inches of rain, including four different sites in Rockford and two in Belvidere.
Here are some of the more remarkable rainfall totals from the evening:
Rockford: 5.01 inches
Belvidere: 4.95 inches
Machesney Park: 3.80 inches
Local
Cary: 3.49 inches
Lake in the Hills: 3.36 inches
Algonquin 3.21 inches
Woodstock: 2.77 inches
According to the National Weather Service, the Chicago area was spared most of the heavy rain, with just 0.39 inches of rain falling at one measuring site in the city.
Unfortunately for the rain-soaked areas, there is more rain in the forecast for Thursday, as two waves of storms could potentially hit the area in the afternoon and evening hours.
