Richton Park Teen Girls Allege Police Brutality

Miracle Jackson cited for "breach of peace"

Two Richton Park girls say they were assaulted by police officers who mistook them for participants in a parking lot brawl.

Miracle Jackson, 16, and her cousin say they were walking to their car after a basketball game at Rich South High School last Saturday when they were attacked by police from nearby Olympia Fields.

Jackson says an officer running to break up the fight got his arm caught in the handle of Jackson's purse.  When she ran alongside the officer to let him know he was caught, another officer ran up and hit her on the head with a police radio, she said.  She has a swollen nose and required four stitches to close a gash above her eye.

Jackson said she was also cited for "breach of peace."

Police have not returned several calls for comment.

"It didn't have to happen this way, they could have handled it differently," Jackson said Tuesday.

Jackson's mother, Teisha Jackson, said she was going to try to find an attorney.

"They're supposed to serve and protect," Teisha Jackson said.

The family said they plan to hire an attorney.
