A firefighter and two civilians were injured as 125 responders from multiple fire departments battled a large condo complex fire Wednesday in Prospect Heights. It took more than seven hours to extinguish the flames by more than 50 departments.
The fire was reported in the 800 block of McIntosh Court. Police warned residents to stay away from the area of Apple and Plaza Drives "to allow emergency response agencies to extinguish this fire."
Officials said the fire started on the second floor and was fueled by the wind. The fire was in three buildings in the complex. Officials said it would take several hours to extinguish.
The building, built in the 1960s, didn't have sprinklers, authorities said.
The American Red Cross said volunteers were also at the scene to give assistance, food and water to those affected.
All buildings in the complex were evacuated.
A GoFundMe was started for some of the residents.
