Owner of Indiana Dog Rescue With Mass Grave Charged With Cruelty

A mass grave for dogs was found during an investigation into Paws Here Foundation, Inc. in Lowell

The owner of an Indiana dog rescue was charged with animal cruelty after police found a mass dog grave and several dogs living in "deplorable conditions" in December.

Kenneth D. Wilson, who owns Paws Here Foundation, Inc. in Lowell, Indiana, was charged with 12 counts of cruelty to an animal by neglect, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police began investigating the rescue in October after volunteers voiced concerns that the dogs were being neglected. Officers executed a search warrant on Dec. 16 and found 10 dogs in "deplorable conditions," two dogs dead and a mass grave with "numerous canine remains," according to a statement from detectives released in December.

The dogs were housed in outside dirt runs and inside a barn and a garage in kennels.

Wilson was charged this month at the conclusion of the police investigation that included two search warrants, according to the Tribune. He faces a $5,000 fine and up to one year in prison for each count of animal cruelty.
