Police Seek Help Identifying Woman After Body Found in Abandoned School

Police are conducting a death investigation and are looking for help identifying the woman

A woman’s body was found Tuesday in an abandoned school building in Gary, police said.

The body was discovered around 7:20 p.m. after officers received a call from an anonymous concerned citizen who said someone was inside the building in the 700 block of East 7th Avenue.

Police found the woman lying face down with minor trauma to her body. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Police are conducting a death investigation and are looking for help identifying the woman.

The woman was described as a black female who was wearing a gold necklace with a charm that said “coco” on it. The woman also had a number of tattoos including the word “gorgeous” and a bird on her left bicep, a cupcake on her thigh, a name on her right forearm and right abdomen with flowers and the word “love,” according to authorities.

Police said no one was in custody as of Wednesday morning.
