Police: 5-Year-Old Girl Shot on Northwest Side

A 5-year-old girl was caught in the crossfire during a shooting in a Northwest Side neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, according to Chicago police.

The unidentified little girl was shot just before 1:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of North Monticello, according to police. A man fired shots at another man during a confrontation, and struck the girl, who was standing in a nearby gangway, in the ankle, police said.

She was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, but her condition is unknown at this time. Area North detectives are still investigating the shooting, and no one is in custody.
