Police: 3-Year-Old Falls Out of Second-Floor Window

A 3-year-old fell out of a window on the second story of a building in Portage Park Tuesday morning, Chicago police said.

Authorities said they responded to an incident at the 5300 block of West Eddy street Tuesday around 9:13 a.m., where a 3-year-old boy fell out of a window of a two flat and onto concrete.

Officials say they believe the child suffered a few serious injuries and was transported to Lurie Children's Hospital in stable condition.

Amada Fernandez is a mother who lives near where the incident happened.

“My heart goes out to that mom,” she said.

Fernandez said she would often see the boy playing with his mom outside the house.

“(I) hope and pray they will be alright,” she expressed.

The Chicago Fire Department is reminding people that upper-floor windows need to be secured, out of reach of children and should not be opened more than 6 to 8 inches.
