A plane slid off a runway, through a fence and across a highway before ending in a field at a northwest Indiana airport Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The LaPorte County Sheirff's office reported the plane slid off a runway and through a fence just before 7 a.m. at Michigan City Airport. Emergency units were responding to the scene.
Michigan City police said the twin engine jet landed in a field near Highway 20 and US Highway 212. The pilot overshot the runway during landing, slid through a fence, across the highway, through a guard rail and stopped about 300 yards into a neighboring field, police said.
A pilot and passenger were in the plane at the time, according to authorities. Both were treated for minor injuries by LaPorte County EMS, according to police.
The aircraft was heavily damaged in the incident, police said.
