College Officer Hospitalized in Scuffle Over Lap Dance

It started with a lap dance and ended with a public safety officer hospitalized in serious condition.

Officers were called to the student center at Harper College in Palatine on Wednesday afternoon after reports that two female students were simulating a lap dance.

In trying to disperse a crowd that had gathered to watch the girls "dance provocatively," one officer got into a confrontation with a student who refused to show his student ID, Harper spokesman Phil Burdick said.

Jay Dixon, 22, of Wheeling, told the officers, "You can find it your own damn self."

At that point, the officer grabbed Dixon’s arm and the other officer grabbed his other arm, court records indicated. He resisted and struggled with the officers, pushing one of them away.

The officer ended up falling and hitting his head on the concrete.

He was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights for treatment and was in the hospital's critical care unit in serious condition Friday morning, said hospital spokesman Blaine Krage.

Dixon was ordered held on $200,000 bond, charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and a felony charge of resisting arrest.

He has a criminal history, including a 2007 theft conviction for which he spent 5 days in Cook County Jail; and a 2005 criminal trespass to a vehicle conviction, for he was ordered court supervison. He was also convicted of possession of cannabis in 2005.
