The driver of a tanker truck was injured on Monday afternoon when their vehicle overturned on the Bishop Ford Expressway, blocking lanes and snarling rush hour traffic coming out of the city.

According to authorities, the tanker truck overturned near the exit ramp at 130th Street just after 3 p.m. Monday. After initially blocking the right two lanes and the exit ramp, authorities closed down the outbound lanes at 115th Street, forcing traffic off the highway at that exit.

Inbound lanes were shut down at around 5:30 p.m. at Sibley Boulevard as crews worked to get the tanker truck upright. According to the Chicago Fire Department, the tanker contained "very corrosive material," but didn't leak.

Just after 6 p.m., all lanes of traffic on the roadway were re-opened, but officials warned that traffic could still be impacted for several hours.
