Suspect on the Loose After Striking Police Officer, Construction Worker After Carjacking

The suspect allegedly carjacked two vehicles and struck a police officer and construction worker

Suburban police are searching for a suspect who allegedly hit a police officer and a construction worker with a vehicle after committing multiple carjackings on Thursday afternoon.

According to Oak Forest police, two people arrived at a restaurant in the 7800 block of 159th Street in Orland Park when they were approached by a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt. The man pulled out a gun, demanded a purse from the victims, and the keys to a 2016 Dodge Charger.

The man then got into the vehicle and drove off, heading eastbound on 159th Street.

The vehicle then struck a construction worker at the intersection of 159th Street and Cicero Avenue, according to police. The carjacker then exited the stolen vehicle, and was pursued on foot by police officers. He then took over another vehicle, a white Mazda, and struck a police officer with the vehicle as he attempted to flee the scene.

The man ultimately evaded authorities, and is still at large.

The construction worker was taken to Christ Advocate Hospital in stable condition, and the police officer was treated and released with an arm injury, according to authorities.

Oak Forest and Orland Park police are teaming up on the investigation.
