Get ready for a dose of feel-good news this weekend.

As part of NBC 5's Making A Difference series focused on inspiring, positive local stories, our latest half-hour special dedicated to those stories airs at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The sixth Making A Difference special, titled "The Good in our Neighborhoods," highlights people driving positive change across the Chicago area. Throughout the episode, Alex Maragos and Michelle Relerford guide viewers through profiles of community leaders and organizations helping to strengthen city and suburban neighborhoods.

"The Good in our Neighborhoods will shed light on the solutions to common challenges across Chicago and the suburbs," NBC 5 spokeswoman Diane Hannes said.

In this episode, NBC 5's Allison Rosati discovers a Chicago community center that protects kids and teens from danger on the streets. Reporter LeeAnn Trotter meets a Neighborhood Hero who took NBC 5’s pledge to make a difference on her block, and reporter Christian Farr highlights an athletic program that is helping individuals with disabilities.

In addition, Maragos shares an emotional story about a navy veteran who bounced back from depression because of sports, and news anchor Zoraida Sambolin tells an inspiring success story about a high school graduate who’s following his passion for music.

"Since its inception in 2013, the station has aired more than 1,000 Making A Difference stories on-air and across all platforms," Hannes said, noting the station's “Community Action Board,” made up of local community leaders, helps guide the station’s focus on important local issues that affect the communities the station serves.
